Tomba! 2: The Evil Swine Return is the sequel to Tomba! released in 1999 in Japan. The game features a new story and focused on more dynamic, 3D gameplay while still keeping the 2.5D roots of the predecessor. This was the second and also last game to be released by WhoopeeCamp.
Story
Some time after the events of Tomba!, Tomba discovers that his childhood friend Tabby has gone missing. Tomba leaps into the ocean after her and ends up in a new land that is cursed by Evil Pigs. As he searches for Tabby, it becomes clear that Tabby was kidnapped by the Evil Pigs and that he has to once again defeat them in order to rescue her. Much like in the predecessor, he collects the Pig Bags, defeats each of the Evil Pigs and eventually rescues Tabby, solving problems for people along the way.
Gameplay
While featuring a more 3D environment than the original, the core of Tomba! 2 is very much the same as the original game. While Tomba! was in 3D but featured mostly 2D areas, Tomba! 2 features areas that bent and crossed at times, and involved you moving into the background or foreground to travel more often. Just like in the first game, you still talk to characters in the game and go on side-quests which net you AP. Doing some of these quests can net you more than just AP and may unlock items as well. As a slight departure from the previous game, you can now equip clothes to give Tomba new abilities which allow him to glide, swim, and talk to pigs. He can also equip Evil Pig robes and use their magic to attack enemies. Notably, some of Tomba's abilities and items are removed from the previous game, so you begin without much of the abilities collected from the original Tomba!, but you do gain access to other abilities and weapons and retain the animal dash.
