A Tomba! point-of-purchase (POP) kit[1] was produced to market the first Tomba game in retail video game stores.
Description
This kit was designed to promote the game just prior to its planned release date, and after it had gone on sale. Each cardboard stand has a removable sticker that switches it from pre-release to post-release, and the window sticker card could be flipped to the same effect.
The following elements are included:
- Three small cardboard stands featuring character art and a sticker with the projected first sale date of December 11. Removing the sticker reveals a post-release text.
- A card with a pre-release text on one side, and post-release text on the other.
- A window sticker of a pig snout, the logo, and the text "ブッタマゲー!" which means roughly "Pig-tacular!"[2] It has an opening for holding the aforementioned card.
- An instructional leaflet with text and illustrations.
This kit was not for sale to the public, as these kits are generally designed for use in retail.
The game's planned release date is given as December 11, but the game ultimately ended up not releasing until December 25.

Instructions
The instructions leaflet contains a list of the package's contents and then two sections for properly setting up the kit.
POP characters (with seal)
The first section is about the cardboard characters.
The top section contains general instructions:
Open the bottom paper as shown in the diagram, peel off the double-sided tape, and display them in the store.

[Illustration of a shelf with products] For example, on a shelf!
The bottom left illustrates how to set up the cardboard characters:
1. Stand up
2. Peel off the tape
The bottom right section explains the pre-release and post-release stickers:
When you peel off the pre-release notification sticker, the post-release notification will appear.

* We apologize for the inconvenience, but please remove the sticker after release.
Pig nose door sticker (with double sided card)
The second section explains how to set up the door sticker. In Japan, most video game and electronics stores have glass doors which would allow the sticker to be seen when attached to the inside.
The left side contains general instructions:
Peel off the sticker sheet and attach it to the inside of the front entrance door.
At that time, insert the card into the four-sided cut of the sticker.

For example, please stick it on the inside of the front door.
The right side explains how the card can be flipped:
The card has a pre-release notification on the front and a post-release notification on the back.

Turn the card around

* We apologize for the inconvenience, but please turn the card around after release.
Notes
- ↑ A POP (point-of-purchase) kit, also called POS (point-of-sale) kit, is a set of promotional materials for display in stores, such as posters, stickers or cardboard displays.
- ↑ The slogan "ブッタマゲー!" is a pun on "pig" (ブタ) and "to be extremely amazed or surprised" (ぶったまげる). (weblio.jp)
