The Village of All Beginnings is an area seen in both games and is the starting point of Tomba!
Tomba!
The Village of All Beginnings is the starting area. It provides the player time to learn Tomba's move set and contains signs explaining the game's controls.
Additionally, the player will meet Charles, a monkey that will be encountered a few more times in the game. There is also a Kokka Egg which contains a chick which needs to be collected for the 100 Year Old Man. At the end of the Village is a thick fog which must be cleared using a Furious Tornado. This can be obtained by falling on or hitting the mailbox with a weapon.
The Village of All Beginnings branches out to several other areas:
- Forest of All Beginnings
- 100 Year Old Man's Hut
- Behind the Hut
- Ol' Pond
- Witch's Hut
The player can visit most of these areas at the start of the game with the exception of the Witch's Hut, which is only accessible after turning on the Civilization Machine in the Iron Castle.
There is also a large Mansion in the background which can only be accessed via the boat at the west side of the Mushroom Forest.
Forest of All Beginnings
After the player clears the fog, they have access to the Forest of All Beginnings, where they can meet Yan and find a passage to Ol' Pond.
The area also contains two Kokka Eggs. Each contains a chick, which are necessary to progress the story after meeting the 100 Year Old Man.
It is also possible to obtain the Biting Plant Flower by hitting the blue berry with a weapon (that isn't a Boomerang or Grapple), which will push it down into a Biting Plant, which then transforms into a flower.
100 Year Old Man's Hut
After following the road and climbing up the stone structure, the player will arrive at the 100 Year Old Man's Hut and meet the 100 Year Old Wise Man. The 100 Year Old Wise Man explains that he is preoccupied because the Red Kokka Birds stole the eggs with the chicks inside them, and asks Tomba to collect the chicks and return to him. If the player doesn't have all four chicks collected, the 100 Year Old Wise Man will kick the player out of his house back down to the Forest of All Beginnings. After the player arrives with the four chicks, the 100 Year Old Wise Man will tell the Story of the Evil Pigs, where he explains that the Evil Pigs stole Tomba's Bracelet because it was made out of gold. After that a rope will descend and the player can continue to the Dwarf Forest. The 100 Year Old Man's Hut contains a 100 Year Old Chest which contains the 100 Year Old Key. This item is automatically given to Tomba. The room is also filled with books, some cacti, a cooking fire and some lit candles.
Behind the Hut
After clearing the purple bubbles on the side of the large house in The Village of All Beginnings, Tomba can access a small area with a deflated GoGoCar. Tomba can walk up to the fence to start a short cutscene which shows the Dirt Motocross Course. The event "Motocross Course" will be silently triggered and will not award any AP. After using the Fuel Bar from the Lumberjack Factory on the GoGoCar, the car will inflate and Tomba can ride it to access the Dirt Motocross course.
Ol' Pond
The Ol' Pond can be accessed via entering the small house in the Forest of All Beginnings. Here, the player can jump on the back of a turtle which carries Tomba to the other side of the pond where he will meet the Fisherman. He will mockingly ask Tomba if he can swim before dropping him into the water. Tomba is saved by the turtle which, after the Fisherman gives Tomba some Bananas, will return him to the other side of the pond. If Tomba has found the Frog after striking the purple plants, the Frog will jump in the Pond and give Tomba three 1 UP's. If Tomba returns to the Ol' Pond after learning to swim he will be able to cross to the other side. Here, he can find a 10,000 Year Old Chest which contains the 10,000 Year Old Bell. There is also a door that must be opened with the Key to Ol' Pond, which leads to Trick Village.
Witch's Hut
The Witch's Hut can be accessed via entering the door in the big house in The Village of All Beginnings. Inside, Tomba will meet Witch Mizuno.
The room contains a bookcase, an extra witch hat, a broom, some ingredients, and a large cauldron. Tomba can use the following items on the cauldron to create the Golden Candy:
- Biting Plant Flower
- Butamushi Thorn
- Kokka Claw
- Molasses
- Needlegator Teeth
- Silver Powder
After Tomba puts in these items he will receive the Golden Candy to clear the event "Let's Make Candy!". Additionally, the following items can be used on the cauldron but have no impact on gameplay.
- (Insert said items here)
The events "Power Up for Tools!?" and "Take Two of These" also take place in Witch Mizuno's Hut.
Tomba! 2: The Evil Swine Return
While not a playable area in Tomba! 2, The Village of All Beginnings makes a small appearance in the opening cinematic after Tomba and Charles watch a letter fall into the mailbox. The Village of All Beginnings also makes a small appearance in the opening of the game when Tomba and Charles open the letter and meet Zippo. A small portion of the Mansion is also visible.
Manga
Tomba! The Wild Adventures
The first three issues of the Tomba! 2 manga generally follow the same story as the game. Therefore, the opening stays the same, and The Village of All Beginnings appears when Tomba and Charles arrive to read the letter.
Appearance
While the Village does not have an associated Evil Pig, the 100 Year Old Wise Man's Tale of the Evil Pigs illustrates that The Village of All Beginnings was cursed when the Evil Pigs arrived on the continent. There are also some pig nose details on structures, like the mailbox. There are also purple plants and bubbles scattered throughout, which slow Tomba down. These can be destroyed by striking them with a weapon.
