A Tomba! point-of-purchase (POP) kit[1] was produced to market the first Tomba game in retail video game stores.

This specific kit contained the following:

  • Three small cardboard stands featuring character art and a sticker with the projected first sale date of December 11 (note: ultimately, the game would not be for sale until December 25). Removing the sticker reveals a post-release text.
  • A card with a pre-release text on one side, and post-release text on the other.
  • A window sticker of a pig snout, the logo, and the text "ブッタマゲー!" which means roughly "Pig-tacular!"[2] It has an opening for holding the aforementioned card.
  • An instructional leaflet with text and illustrations.

Instructions

The instructions leaflet contains a list of the package's contents and then two sections for properly setting up the kit.

POP characters (with seal)

The first section is about the cardboard characters.

Notes

  1. A POP (point-of-purchase) kit, also called POS (point-of-sale) kit, is a set of promotional materials for display in stores, such as posters, stickers or cardboard displays.
  2. The slogan ブッタマゲー! is a pun on "pig" (ブタ) and "to be extremely amazed or surprised" (ぶったまげる). (weblio.jp)
